CORE TEAM MEETINGS

We believe a Citylight every 20 minutes or so would provide the opportunity to focus on specific communities and establish deep Gospel work in people’s lives. Saturation leads to transformation so we want to do a lot of work in focused areas so we can prayerfully see the greatest results. Reston and other nearby places west of DC are where many families move to settle down and build their lives. It is in great need of many churches to serve this community and help people establish their lives on the foundation of the Gospel. We also already have many families that live in the nearby areas who can provide a core group from which we can start strong. It has a similar community to our first location in the Falls Church area and the lessons we have learned there about effective ministry can quickly apply here. We believe that by adding this to our falls church location we can place a Citylight along the track of people’s lives as they generally move from DC outward. Lord willing one day we will have locations in and outside of the City doing deep gospel work in local communities!

The vision has always been to multiply and reach other communities. God has been working in such a powerful way here at Falls Church that we needed to begin making plans for more space. One of the things we have always said is we don’t just want to build up but to spread out, so as we grow we find ways to multiply. Considering the vision of the church, as well as the practical problems of a growing congregation, and after much prayer and discussions with leadership we began to look through options for potential locations. As we were looking, God provided direction and generous financial support to make it all possible. Now that the Lord has opened the door for one and his favor and hand seems evident on it, we are confident now is the right time to move forward.

Lord willing it will launch the first Sunday of the new year, January 4, 2026 (this is dependent on renovation going according to plan).

When we launch, Nate will continue to serve as the lead pastor at both locations. We will also

continue to rely on our current elder group and teaching team (Nate, John, Luis, and Dale) to

provide Sunday messages and oversee daily leadership at both locations. Over time, we will seek God’s wisdom with the elders and the board regarding expanded leadership roles as we pursue a path of having location pastors and a teaching team providing the messages.

The staff team at Falls Church will remain in place as we launch, and we are excited about opportunities to expand leadership roles at both locations. We are praying specifically for team leads to join us in Reston in areas such as kids, worship, youth, tech, operations, lighthouse leadership, and outreach. We will start with one service at 10am with a plan to go to two services at 9am and 11am whenever the one service fills up consistently.

Will there be Citylight Kids?

Yes! Over the next several months we will be recruiting and training a team for this so the

ministry can be ready from day one.

Will there be Citylight Youth?

Yes! Over the next several months we will be recruiting and training a team for this. We hope to

launch a weekly youth meeting and some great monthly events soon after launch day.

Will there be Citylight Young Adults?

Yes! The start date is to be determined. Our prayer is to get this started within the first few

months of launch and we will be recruiting a leader/team for this. More information to come.

Yes! We already have a few leaders who live in those areas ready to start groups and also will be looking to train and start some more as we see who is involved at the beginning. One of the primary reasons to start new Citylight locations is to keep ministry and community as geographically local as possible. Therefore it is a big priority to build this out for those in Reston and the surrounding areas like it is in Falls Church. If you would like to lead one, let us know!

The plan is to keep the model of ministry very similar across all potential locations by running the same big outreach events, camps, working with local schools and partners, doing deliveries and meeting needs in our community, and building out the community center model where people come to the church for a variety of reasons but hopefully have an encounter with Jesus!

Yes! Our hope and desire is to have a Ciudad Luz at every Citylight location as we expand. We won’t be able to start one right away on launch day, but as Ciudad Luz grows and builds out more leadership teams we hope to launch within the first year in 2026.

By getting involved and using your time, talents, and treasures to get this work off the ground. We are raising funds and building out teams to run Sunday services, begin lighthouses, and help do outreach ministry in our communities. You can give to Citylight Reston on the giving page on our website, you can serve on a light team to help run Sunday services (tech, hospitality, worship, or kids), and you can begin to participate in our core meetings and pre launch activity to see where the needs might be and how the Lord wants to use you in this new church.
